As a result of the record-setting blizzard, schools in the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia area have extended their in-session calendars. GWSI 2016 will now be held 6/25-7/3 for Teachers and 6/27-7/1 for Students.
The Greater Washington
The GWSI is a sub-chapter of the Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area (SAGWA), a non-profit volunteer organization devoted to improving children’s lives through music education. Our mission is to inspire an appreciation for the untapped possibilities of children through promoting the understanding and use of the music teaching approach and educational philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki for the greater happiness of all children.
SAGWA sponsors musical events throughout the year, contributes scholarship support for deserving students, and provides a forum for parents and teachers to share ideas and learn from each other’s experiences.
Now going into our 39th season, the Greater Washington Suzuki Institute has full programs for violin and cello students and partial programs for viola and bass. Offerings include master class lessons, repertory classes, chamber music, 5 orchestras, Scottish fiddling, sessions for students on effective practice, daily recitals, Music Mind Games for beginning students, and lectures for parents and teachers.
Teacher Development courses: Every Child Can, Cello Unit 1, Violin Units 1, 2, & 3
Enrichment Course: Childhood Learning: An Overview Of Biological and Psychological Perspectives, a Seminar for Parents and Teachers, by Harpreet Kaur, MD & Joy Chang, MD
The Institute is located in the beautiful Woodrow Wilson High School, surrounded by a multiplicity of restaurants and close to a metro line giving easy access to all sites of interest in Washington, DC.
